AVATAR is a 2009 American science fiction movie scripted and directed by versatile movie director James Cameron, with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang playing the lead roles. The word "avatar" has its roots Hindu mythology. It is "god's visit to Earth to fix smth that is broken". Vishnu, one of the 3 gods who shield creation, visits Earth frequently. In Hindu mythology Vishnu is depicted dark-blue. Having been possibly inspired by Hindu mythology, Cameron has also decided to make the aliens blue. Set in the year 2154 on an alien moon called Pandora placed the Alpha Centauri star system, Avatar film tells the ever-lasting story of greed, immaturity and the ferocity that results from ignorance. The plot revolves around a soldier - Jack - who is sent to Pandora the planet situated in the Alpha Centauri star system in order to help The Corporation aiming to mine and export unobtainium - a precious mineral. The Na'vi are the alien sentient humonoid species that thrive on the planet. They are a part of a vast symbiotic living system that comprises both plants and animals which are connected by a biological interaction network. The Corporation wants to mine the planet and the Na'vi fight for their motherland. The expansion and growth of the mining colony menaces the existence of the local tribe. Jack is taken in by the Na'vi and gets acquainted with their culture, language and habitat. Natirii, the female Na'vi he meets in the forest, helps him through this journey. Jake falls in love with her. Avatars are biological creatures made from human and alien DNA. They are controlled by a human being whose DNA they were made from. The soldier takes control of an avatar that is made from his brother's DNA. Avatar draws a rosy picture of an ideal world. The end of the film is particularly moving. The visual effects are spectacular. The alien world Cameron and his team display to the viewer is one of the most thought-out and consistent. The movie is really worth viewing.
